ALL MBI BARRIE Courses are subsidized by OHIP with a Physician’s referral. A referral is required to register for our programs. Our programs are medically facilitated and supervised by a physician and co-facilitated by his team. All team members are certified and highly skilled;bringing their unique insights and experiences to each class. Senior Facilitator Dr. Kim R. McKenzie M.D., (FRCP), Internal/Geriatric Medicine With the referral OHIP pays for the enrolment fee and course attendance. The highly recommended course materials and MBI Barrie Tuition Fee is NOT paid by OHIP.

MBI – CPL1 / Chronic Pain Management – Level I – By The Ontario Telemedicine Network (OTN)

This is a medically supervised chronic pain management program, and with a physician referral, the course and enrolment is paid by OHIP. A PHYSICIAN REFERRAL IS REQUIRED FOR ALL MBI PROGRAMS.

The highly recommended course materials are not paid by OHIP. These courses are successful for many as their self-awareness grows in learning that they are more than their PAIN. Participants get out of the course what they put into it. Class attendance and course materials are essential in each program. Once course materials are purchased, there is an opportunity to refer back to them as needed on the continual journey of growth.

This is an eight week course introduces principles of mindfulness-based stress reduction and mindfulness-based cognitive therapy. We also explore mindfulness-based self-compassion and compassion for others. The program runs 2.5 hours a week and utilizes mindfulness-based interventions to deepen one’s own awareness. The primary focus is on increasing the ability of the participants to be mindful of their own thoughts, emotions and body wisdom in order to respond to life joyfully and fully. The program is guided by Dr. Kim R McKenzie, certified in MBSR and MBCPM. It is complementary to programs run by the Center for Inner Freedom and the Integrated Stress Management Program ISMP and builds on the teaching within those programs.

12 Week Program: Running Fridays – Mar. 22 – June 22, 2019 / 9:20 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. Note there will be no class on May 25 and June 29, 2019.

A prerequisite for the program is a three-month personal meditation practice and the previous taking of a Mindfulness-Based Chronic Pain Management Program.

This program will build upon that practice with longer more intense individual and group meditations as well as group work among individuals with experience in meditation. It is guided by Dr. Kim R McKenzie who is certified in MBSR and MBCPM. It is complementary to programs run by the Center for Inner Freedom and the Integrated Stress Management Program.

10 Week Program: Running Fridays – Dates TBD.

The Emotional Skills course is very different from MBCPM Level 1 and Level 2 programs, as it provides more awareness how the mind and body work, allowing the opportunity to go deeper into the healing process. This course is divided into 5 modules, with a focus on specific topic each week. The program is very detailed and includes the Emotional skills workbook. This course can result in keeping pain more under control, as pain intensifies under stress. The more we grow in our awareness, the more we can begin to make better choices in managing our suffering.

Prerequisites:

  • Two of the MBCPMTM Level 1 courses, OR
  • One of the MBCPMTM Level 1 courses and 1 of the MBCPMTM Level 2 courses
  • Consistent attendance at the prior courses
  • Regular formal practice of 20 minutes a day

MBI Barrie Cancellation Refund Policy, updated June 2017

If you do have to withdraw from the course, it must be within 14 days before the Class 1 start date. Then your full refund  of the material fee will be sent to you.  Once you begin the course and receive and sign for your course materials the full Material fee is non-refundable or transferable.
